## What is Infrastructure Planner?

Infrastructure Planner is the built-in data center layout planning and asset management module in the ASUS AIDC Portal. Powered by 3D interactive visualization, it enables IT operations teams and pre-sales engineers to complete full space design, capacity planning, and device configuration before actual deployment.

## Why Infrastructure Planner?

Traditional data center planning relies on spreadsheets and manual estimation, which often leads to the following problems:

| Pain Point                 | Description                                                                                                            |
| -------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Spreadsheet Management** | Tracking rack configurations in Excel leads to scattered data, version conflicts, and poor cross-team collaboration |
| **No Visualization** | Without visual tools, U-slot occupancy can only be estimated by experience |
| **Capacity Overload Risk** | Without centralized control over power and weight limits, overloads are discovered on-site with high remediation costs |
| **Device Conflicts** | Rack overlaps and device collisions during multi-user planning are only caught before deployment |
| **Knowledge Silos** | Device specs scattered across documents make it difficult for new members to understand existing configurations |

Infrastructure Planner addresses these problems with the following solutions:

| Solution                          | Description                                                                                      |
| --------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Unified Data Platform** | All racks, devices, and nodes are centrally managed from a single source of truth |
| **3D Interactive Visualization** | Three.js renders a real-time 3D model of the entire data center — what you see is what you get |
| **Real-Time Capacity Validation** | Power and weight are calculated in real time; alerts are triggered before limits are exceeded |
| **Collision Detection** | The system automatically prevents rack overlaps, ensuring valid configurations before deployment |
| **Standardized Device Library** | Device models are uniformly cataloged — drag, drop, and reuse with shared knowledge |

## System Architecture

Infrastructure Planner covers the full lifecycle of data center planning across three core pillars:

```mermaid
graph LR
    %% Define Nodes
    Plan["Plan\nLayout design & capacity setup"]
    Configure["Configure\nDevice library, templates & U-slot assignment"]
    Validate["Validate\nPower, weight & collision detection"]
    %% Process connections
    Plan --> Configure --> Validate
    style Configure stroke:#1c64f2,stroke-width:2px
    style Validate stroke:#057a55,stroke-width:2px
```

**Plan**

* Create multi-version data center layouts
* Define floor dimensions and capacity limits
* Design 3D space and place racks
* Manage multiple data centers in parallel

**Configure**

* Standardize device model library management
* Reuse rack templates for rapid deployment
* Precisely allocate and view U-slots
* Configure full node IP / NIC settings

**Validate**

* Real-time power budget calculation
* Real-time weight limit monitoring
* Automatic rack collision detection
* Dry-run validation before deployment

## Five Feature Modules

The system consists of five interconnected modules, accessible via the left navigation bar:

| #  | Module                 | Summary                                                                                               |
| -- | ---------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| 01 | **Overview Dashboard** | Real-time health status across all layouts; KPI cards display power, weight, node, and rack counts |
| 02 | **3D Data Center** | Three.js-powered 3D interactive editor; drag racks onto the floor and click to view details |
| 03 | **Rack Management** | Tree-view management of all deployed racks; U-slot visualization and node network configuration |
| 04 | **Rack Templates** | Create reusable standard rack templates; design once, deploy many times; supports JSON export/import |
| 05 | **Device Library** | Unified device model database with complete physical and network specifications; supports bulk import |

## Data Hierarchy

The data entities managed by Infrastructure Planner are organized into four levels from top to bottom:

```
Layout
  └── Rack (rack instance)
        └── Device (device instance, deployed by U-slot)
              └── SubNode (compute node with Hostname / NIC / IP)
```

| Entity      | Description                                                                                                     |
| ----------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Layout** | Represents the complete layout of a data center room, including floor dimensions, power limit, and weight limit |
| **Rack** | A rack instance deployed within a Layout, recording 3D position, rotation angle, and status |
| **Device** | A device instance installed in a Rack, recording U-slot start position, power, and weight |
| **SubNode** | A compute node within a Device, recording Hostname, network interface (NIC), and IP configuration |
